so azraf had his al-amin diagnostic assessment saturday, aug 9.
his was scheduled at 8:45, we got there around 8:20, everyone in tow as kakak was already in segamat with mummy and co.
the school hasn't even finished setting up, and azraf was holding one of the pole's of the regsitration tent, and the tent almost came down. uh-oh. it turned out that pole couldn't be locked, but handyman papa came to the rescue :).
anyway, so they finally finished setting up, a bit late. but no sane parents would be complaining then, would they? there were a lot of pupils there as volunteers, not just prefects.
parents had to sign the attendance, there was a separate column for mother and father. then we were given a file which had our application inside it and our interview number, and azraf had his name tag, and was given a party pack (snack and water) and an 'i love al-amin' button. after he put on his name tag, a pupil put a number on it, and he was taken up by another pupil. and we waited.
not just for him to finish, but for our turn to be interviewed. well, I thought it was more like an information gathering thing so we could ask more about the school, but we were being interviewed, there were marks given to the parents. I think we did okay :).
when we were done, we waited for azraf to finish. there were snacks and hot tea given by the school, but papa wanted to find more filling food. so I waited with amjad. i worked on my paper with my laptop, and was pretty much into it, until amjad made a remark that azraf was taking a long time, and we realized other kids had came out from their session. hmmm.... and then I remembered ooops, according to the flowchart given earlier, parents are supposed to pick up their child at 2 amru. so packed my stuff and went to the classroom. sure enough he was in the room. that was the 'holding room' in case parents had not had their turn at being interviewed yet.
so we left. he was pretty confident. when I went to him, he said the teacher said to send regards to ibu, and then he said the teacher said he was a clever boy. even if the teacher said the same thing to every child she assessed, that's okay, azraf felt good about himself, and he did not seem stressed a whit.
but kind of hard to get detailed information on what happened, 'i forgot' is the stock answer to everything. now, he has revealed bit by bit the surah he had to memorize was al-fatihah and al-masad. he was first given the Qur-an to recite, he told the teacher he hasn't reached there yet, and teacher asked where he was currently, and he honestly said Iqra'4, and so he was asked to read from Iqra' 4.
I forgot to ask when we'd know for sure -- silly me! but it should be around september. It's okay if he doesn't get in, no pressure. It'd just be easier for me if he does though -- no running around looking for a school for him next year :).

playschool for najwan
wow, second post in the week on najwan on the school blog.
tuesday, we tried getting najwan to school. and he made it through alright. mummy was in school today, and according to her, najwan was okay, no tears, no chasing mummy around, he stayed with his age group okay.
and the report 'ajwan belajar kat sekolah, ajwan belajar dengan cikgu.'
this morning, we thought no school, let him rest. but he woke up with azraf. he came down and started complaining about the cold. so gave him a hug and said if he took his shower, he won't be cold anymore (mom's logic there obviously :)).
then we left and it turned out he went to school with mummy again. and he was okay, but he's been building up his case since we got home today.
as soon as we got home, najwan came and said in his best pitiful voice 'sejuk.' so checked his temperature, he was okay (the cold complaint started when he was sick a couple of weeks back and everytime he complained we'd cuddle him -- it was a legitimate complaint then).
and everytime school is mentioned today, he'd say 'sejuk.'
and he anted his argument a little bit more after a while -- school sejuk.
and yet he seemed to enjoy himself in school, according to mummy.
