School wrap-up

The school year is over.

UPSR results came in on Thursday. Amjad 4A; Syazmi 3A. The boys were very disappointed at first but they seem to have handle it well now.

Hania did not get a single A -- we need to work more with her, definitely, she'll remain in class#3 for Year 5.

Syakira got an award for getting 5A's in her final year exam in the school's Prize Giving Day.

Azraf also got an award for 9A's but he did not go as papa had to go to India on that day.

So there leaves Syira, her PMR results should be out last week of December.

Amjad and Syazmi will go to Al-Amin next year.

he is only in Year 1

As we were walking to the car after school is over, Azraf asked me how much longer until his exams are over.
Poor boy. Today was the last day of his exams and he has no clue.

Well, he is only in Year 1 after all.

results

pkbs 1 results are not so encouraging.

hania has no A's, her karangan is on the border C (40/100???). class position 24.
syazmi has 2A. class position 40/40. ouch! this was not told to ibu for more than a week.
amjad has 3A's, short 2 of his target. class position unknown.
syakira has 3A's (at least, I think). class position 17. and since that is 5 Murni, that is commendable.

next pkbs is next week. it's too soon probably to change our approach as that was just started two weeks before the last pkbs.

azraf is having his first pkbs. is starts today, we thought it started yesterday. he thought it started yesterday and he blithely went to school with a pencil case full of pens but no pencils. so dug around in my handbag and there was an ikea pencil. so alhamdulillah there was actually no test monday. his stationery is complete today, right up to a long ruler.

today it's jawi and science. tomorrow, we have to listen to the school dismissal assembly to know. now I'm not sure why they can't also put the schedule on the web as they do have a respectable website.

najwan and school

he is so into school now.

today, he woke up early, knowing they'd get party packs in school today. he fell asleep after he was all ready but did not make any fuss when we woke him up later to send him to school.

he insists on sitting the the study table and to work together with the others. he'll write, he'll colour, he'll get mummy to read to him, he'll do puzzles.

today he found abang de's school bag for kindy last year and he quickly claimed it as his, which abang de kindly complied, and so he put in his colours and books and started wearing it around the house, saying he was going to azzarif. the others were getting ready to go for mengaji then. he then decided he also wanted to join them and quickly took his iqra' book from the shelf and put it in his bag and off he went.

waiting for report right now whether he did stay for mengaji or changed his mind.

it's so quiet right now at home, time to do some reading.

up-date: he did stay for the whole time, and was so proud of himself, and he said we wanted to continue. everybody was treated with a trip to petronas mesra store.

najwan in school

can't believe I haven't posted about him going to school, kesiaan anak #4, or maybe ibu is in denial that baby is now a pre-schooler.

first day he cried, and mummy gave him a the week off, as mummy was still trying to get things under control.

second, third week and fourth, on and off. on-days were pretty much half-days for him.

last week he was all ready to go, then it turned out there was nobody to send him to school as papa had already left, and mummy, ibu and abah had left even earlier. So there he was in his school uniform with no one to send to school.

the next day, he was up early, he got ready early, by 7, and he waited at the door to make sure he was not left behind and went to school with mummy. That has been pretty much the pattern to date, he would now go to school either with mummy and ibu, no more going with papa which would mean missing assembly.

and he's making friends. his friends are more the 5 and 6 yar-olds rather the his 4-y.o. group. oh well. but he's now sitting with his age group and following the activities instead of tagging behind mummy or ibu.

he's still using his school voice in school -- you have to be close to him to hear it. maybe just a little bit louder is fine, we wouldn't want him to use his home voice which is pretty much town crier #2 (#1 still has to belong to abang de).

and he is so into school work. every night now he would take his "buku belajar" -- the alphabet writing book I bought for him some time ago and works hard at forming the letters on his own.

and he calls himself 'ajen' more nowadays instead of exclusively 'adik.'

*sigh* my baby is growing up.

kopiah pulak

... losing things re-visited.

yesterday it was his kopiah.

hmmmm....

what exam?

SKTM2 kids have sat for 2 exams -- diagnostic in january, and PKBS1 in february.

SRIAAG? no clue from the kid, so asked a fellow parent last week, he said it's usually right before the school break. nice schedule -- 6 feb sports day, 9 off day (it's a holiday anyway as it's maulid ur-Rasul), then their exam.

I think SKTM2 kids is having their PKBS2 right after the school break.

For the exam schedule alone, everyone is probably harboring secret hopes to be in SRIAAG :).

And that PMR candidate had a killer monthly exam schedule this month -- 5 papers a day over 2 days only. sheeshhhh...

losing stuff

azraf has been losing stuff in school. not sure whether it's intentionally or not, but some of it has been taken by friends, some by his absent-mindedness.

things that we could mark, we did, but I am so not going to mark every piece of his pencils, erasers or colour pencils etc. he just has to learn to take better care of his stuff.

but having his book mistakenly taken home by his friend for a few days was a hassle.

and no spectacles for the time being as it's sports practice time and he doesn't need them for sports.

extra saturday classes

Amjad and Syazmi now have to go to school every Saturday morning for extra classes. Mandatory for Year 6 students. So I guess the boys now get to go to 'tuition.'

UPSR is on Sep 8-10.

Homework blues

The first week of school and we're (ok, the kids) are up to their ears with homework -- and Mummy and Ibu are getting the homework blues :).

The older ones are taking forever finishing up their homework. Can't believe they still need to be supervised so that they chit-chat less and do more work.

Azraf had tons yesterday. Not that the teachers gave him tons -- he didn't bring his books. Ooops! I noticed when sending him yesterday he had only the exercise books, but he said the teacher has not given him the class schedule, so I said ok fine then. It turned out the teacher put the class schedule in each pupil's bag, so our guy had to sit around while his friends did the work in the workbooks, and he has to make up for that last night.

And no, sorry, Ibu's not doing the colouring for you, though I share your thoughts that you're way too old to just be doing colouring for your homework.

Azraf at Al-amin

So baby#3 is in Year 1.

The orientation (or ta'arruf as the school called it) was on the Saturday right before school began. Azraf had a good time in class, while ibu and Abang went for the parents' session.

He starts school at 11:30, and finishes at 6:30. Monday to Wednesday was more orientation, he starts 'learning' today. So far, he's liking it. You see a very tired boy when you pick him up from school, but a tired boy who was so full of information about his day. Liking it is probably too mild, he's actually loving it. On Monday, he had 1 best friend, by Wednesday he had 2. You also see a very hungry boy. According to him, Year 1 pupils cannot have seconds, only Year 2 and 3 can. Not sure what's the rationale for that. But he brings food from home too. At first he was like, you know I don't have to pay for food at the canteen, and then he got wise after others told him, of course not coz ibu and papa have paid for that already.

He's pretty eager to start 'real work.' The others have had homework from the first day of school, and now that he has joined the big league, he's excited about getting homework :).
